Romeo & Juliet Continuum

What a fantastic start to the term! We spent the day reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (the condensed version of course!). A tragic story of star-crossed lovers. We also spent some of the day discussing some of the theme from the play and shared our opinions on them. What's your opinion on these statements:
1. The punishment for murder should always be death.
2. Teenagers can't understand what true love really is.
3. Killing someone in revenge for killing a close friend of yours is okay.
4. Good friends should stick together at all times no matter how wrong a friend may be.

Write a comment to share your opinion.

3. If someone kills your friend then you shouldn't kill them back in revenge because they didn't do anything to you and it's not your responsibility to take care of what they did. Killing them will just get you into trouble.

1. Disagree If the punishment is always death it would just result in more havoc and killing an innocent person would not have good outcomes when they find out the person didn't actually commit the murder.

2. Agree (sort of) It really depends maturity wise.

3. Disagree Just like No. 1, it would just create more mess and when the murderer who murdered the murderer who murdered the friend gets found out, he will be punished.

4. Agree Depends if the friend is wanting you to do the same. If you have been friends for a while it would be a shame if you didn't stick together.

I think that punishment for killing someone should be death because doing time in jail will do nothing to stop the killer to go and kill somebody else.

4. I disagree depending on what your friend does because if your best friend kills someone or steels money from a shop they might think that is funny but I don't. If it is just something like being mean to one of your other friends I would Agree.

1) Disagree. Because you took someone's life, you should be aware that you are putting your life and freedom at risk too.
What about wrongful accusations? Are you 100% certain that the person IS the murderer)

2) 1/2. teenagers are humans and are capable of love - they may not fully understand the consequences of that though. They might just think that the person is pretty and cool, however some teenagers might actually know the person for a long time.

3) Disagree. You are just making the situation more difficult, and the murderer could always have life-inprisonment. Arguably, you reduce yourself to being no better than they are

4) 1/2. It really depends on what the person did, but yes, I would stick together with that person.

i think if someone kills someone the punishment should be death because putting someone in jail doesn't stop them from killing someone.

1.Disagree death isn't always the wright answer to the problem, the person accused may not even be the murderer and even if they did murder the person death would not teach them any lesson on what they have done wrong, they will not understand the pain they have caused.

2.Agree teenages don't fully know the meaning of true love they only judge on the apperance of the person (depending of the age of the teenager if 18 or older they will have better understanding).

3.Disagree if you were to kill the person it makes you know better than the person who killed your friend, let the police deal with the situation.

4.It depends what your friend did because I think it is nice to stick with your friends, however if they had stolen something or hurt someone then I would not like to stay friends with that person because they are a bad influence and you would get dragged into the mess.

1. I disagree because if the murderer was put into jail, they would spend the rest of their lives feeling bad and sorry for themselves. If they were killed, they'd have no feelings because they're dead. If I was to be put in that position, I'd rather be killed!

2. Agree, these days teenagers just want to look for a pretty face, not focusing on a good personality. But the older you are, the more mature you are. Back in Shakespeare's time, I imagine that people were more mature at an earlier age- just like the Romeo & Juliet story, they were only 13.

3. Disagree, your revenge will result as more problems. You will likely be put into jail and it is a terrible place to be.

4. As what Zara said, if it was just a little argument in the playground then sure I'd stay with my friends!

If someone kills your friend you shouldn't kill them back because then you would just get trouble

if someone kills your best friend then there is no point of killing them back because then you would just get in trouble

I believe that if people were executed for killing someone else will probably stop them from doing it because people would be frighten to do it when they have a small chance of getting caught

1 Agree that punishment of murder should always be death because nothing is worth as much as murder and jail time is nothing compared to death.

2 Everyone is different and some are more mature than others.

3 I think its okay because if you had a close friend wh as murdered you would want revenge.

4 I disagree because friends may be very wrong sometimes.

I think that two wrongs dont make a right so you shouldnt kill some one if they kill your friend.

I think that some teenages can experience true love but it is very rear.
I don't think it's right to kill someone if they kill your friend but there should be punishment for it.
I think its critical that friends should stay friends no matter what there'v done.
