Hundertwasser Art
Last week Room 13 looked at the artist Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser. We noticed from his art work that he does not like straight lines and enjoys using bright, vibrant colours.
Check out the awesome paintings we made below. We zoomed in on a small part of a painting and then enlarged it. It's a lot harder than it sounds!

Celebrate!
To kick start our Festivals unit last week we got a little crafty!
In groups we had 30 minutes to construct a simple craft from different festivals celebrated around the world. We then shared with everyone the significance of this craft (symbol) with the class.

Wearable Art skill building - sewing
While the netballers were away today the rest of us spent the day sewing (another useful skills for wearable arts preparation). We perfected the art of threading the needle, knot tying (not as easy as it sounds), basic stitching, zig-zagging, attaching buttons and beads and even stitching flower designs!
Wearable Art skill building - Training Day
We had a great day last Friday learning new skills and getting ideas for our final artwork.
It was lots of fun because the whole year 5/6 team worked together in the hall.
We worked in groups of four and had a limited time-frame in which to come up with an outfit to walk down the catwalk. The teachers also limited the materials we could use so we had to get creative. Our outfits also had to show examples of weaving, sewing and folding.

Wearable Art skill building
Today we took part in our first skill building session in preparing for creating our wearable art. Today's focus was weaving.
How could you incorporate this skill into your design?

Wow! What a day!
Another busy day was had by everyone today in Room 13. It was a cracker of day for the school cross country at Williams Park. Well done to everyone who competed. It was a seriously tough course and you should all be very proud of your efforts. A BIG congratulations to Matthew and Maya to both came 1st in their races. The top ten in both races will be off to the Zone Cross Country next week!
After lunch we were lucky enough to attend a performance called myfriend.com. The main theme of the show was based around cyber safety.

Fabulous Faces
Check out our Fabulous Faces using crayon and dye. We were learning to show tone of skin colour in our drawings. We noticed there were many different shades to our face and we tried to identify these with different coloured crayons. We then used dye to make our faces fabulous!!

Fabric Art
Room 15 had a fantastic last week of Term 3 - we spent the majority of the time doing ART! For this actvity we focused on stenciling on fabric. We started by dying our fabric then we made stencils from paper. VERY CAREFULLY, we stenciled our designs onto our fabric using paint. To finish it off we CAREFULLY hand-sewed around our edges.

The Royal New Zealand Ballet visited Muritai School today. They showed us some of what they do in the training classes and they also showed us some dance. They were quite amazing and very talented dancers!

Siapo Patterns
Room 15 have been looking at the art of siapo from Samoa. We noticed how the designs have lines of symmetry and points of rotations.
WALT: to create a design that has at least 4 lines of symmetry and a point of rotation.

Pencil Sketches
Check out our completed pencil sketches! We have spend a long time on these pieces trying to perfect our tones and shades. We needed to remember to draw what we saw not what we think we saw.
